September 29, 2005 October: When I’ll Spend More Nights in Another Bed Than my Own
Get your minds out of the gutter. No, I only wish my life were that exciting; sadly, it’s one trip to visit family and two business trips that are going to keep me hopping around from hotel to hotel. I am so not looking forward to it. The family trip because it’s a family trip—although at least we will be staying in a hotel. Thank the gods for small blessings. “Gee, I think Frances is getting worn out; we’d better head back for her nap.” But what I’m really dreading are the two business trips. There was a time when I was on maternity leave that I so envied Erik his occasional business trip. A full night’s sleep in a clean hotel room! No crying. No picking up. No puke all over your clothes. No one kicking you in the belly while you slept. Adult interaction. Nice food you didn’t have to pay for, and no one screaming in your arms while you ate it, jamming it into your mouth and down your throat as quickly as possible. But now? Now I get so little time with my girl as it is that the thought of going away from her even once, let alone twice, and once for almost a week, just makes me sad. I miss her, and I haven’t even left yet. I am trying to plan my travel time so that when I come back, I can take some time off to keep her home with me and catch up. It’s really such a trivial thing to be sad about—oh no! My decent government job is sending me out of town to a nice hotel where they will feed me and bore me for days with endless chatter!—but I am. That said…. Anyone in Ottawa or Winnipeg feel like meeting up? Posted by Andrea at September 29, 2005 10:17 AM under Me EMAIL this entry (comments fields are below this section) Comments I was going to pat your head and tell you you'll be find on your business trips and toss a few platitudes at you but then I saw you'll be in OTTAWA and hey! Wait a minute! I'm in Ottawa too!! I can reassure you in person!! Or, more likely, we can get together and talk bloggy stuff and I'll totally take your mind off missing your little one. When when when??? Posted by: Danigirl at September 29, 2005 11:36 AM
Darn! Why can't you be coming to the DC area? Shoot. Posted by: liz at September 29, 2005 3:56 PM
I. Am. So. Jealous. You're going to meet DANI! I swear, the first time I lay eyes on her, I'll be all over her like stink on a monkey! I guess I'd better get you your CROSSTITCH MAGAZINE which arrived today, so you can work on your holiday projects on those long lonely nights. It'll save you a fortune instead of watching motel room movie porn. How shall we do that? Posted by: Marla at September 29, 2005 7:45 PM
If you'd like, I can bring her a tissue sample and you can meet up via dna.... Liz: Good question. I'll ask my boss. Posted by: Andrea at September 29, 2005 8:07 PM
Sorry, no trips to Ottawa or Winnipeg.....but I'm heading to Toronto for Oct 10-12. Posted by: Sue at September 29, 2005 9:21 PM
I think you just accurately described what my husband tries to tell me every time he has to go away for business. I for one am not totally convinced he is 110% anti-hotel sleeping, room service, nice restaurants, etc...but after reading your post, I think you nailed it. Thank you. Sue, we are going to just miss each other. How's that for luck? Nancy, thanks. The trips would be great if I could bring her with me--think they'd mind her in the meetings? *sigh* Posted by: Andrea at September 30, 2005 7:21 AM
(note to self: do not stand within tissue-snatching, hair plucking or saliva collecting range of Andrea during her upcoming visit) Posted by: Danigirl at September 30, 2005 7:51 AM
