April 10, 2006 Radio Free Frances: Knock Knock!
Frances has discovered the joy of knock knock jokes. I suppose all kids go through this stage. Right? But the thing is, she doesn't really get them yet, so it's more like: Frances: Knock knock! Andrea: Who's there? Frances: An orange! Andrea: An orange who? Frances: Weah! Or alternately, Andrea: Knock knock! Frances: Who's there? Andrea: A finger spider! Frances: A finger spider? Oh! I thought it was a finger spider. So on Sunday I managed to catch some of this comedic gold on the microphone, just for you. Enjoy! By the way, those of you who have tried to subscribe via iTunes recently and have found it doesn't work--we disappeared from the directory. I resubmitted it. It should be listed again later this week. ~~~~~ Her rejoinder to the knock knock joke, too, is a common element of all our conversations these days: Frances: I want some apple juice! I want some apple juice! I want some apple juice! Andrea: What do you say? Frances: Pleeeeeeeeez. Andrea: Ok. Here you go. Frances: Apple juice? Oh! I thought it was a apple juice. Just about any situation you can imagine. "Max? Oh! I thought it was Max." "The TV? Oh! I thought it was the TV." "Macaroni and cheese? Oh! I thought it was macaroni and cheese." I don't know where this came from, but it's SO CUTE. SO cute. Especially when she leaves the second half off, so it just sounds like pleasant surprise at getting what she's asked for. "Cheerios? Oh!" Whereupon Erik and I both laugh, while trying hard not to. I can't get over how well she speaks for her age! It's amazing. I just love her tiny little voice, it matches her size perfectly!! Oh I would love to scoop her up and make her giggle till the cows came home! At home what we do is when Aaron comes off the bus I bring him to the front door and he says knock knock. I wait, then he says Come innnn. Yeah the things we teach our kids!! They are just so cute beyond words! Posted by: LauraJ at April 10, 2006 12:15 PM

Change is God (Octavia Butler, Parable Series) "In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal.
