September 18, 2006 Carrot Soup
(On the weekend) Andrea: So what do you want for lunch, Frances? Frances: Soup! Andrea: Soup? Frances: Carrot soup! Andrea: Did you have carrot soup at the daycare yesterday? Frances: Yeah! Andrea: Was it yummy? Frances: Yeah. Andrea: Well I'm sorry kiddo, but we don't have any carrot soup. Would you like to help Mummy make some carrot soup next week? Frances: Yeah! Carrot soup is yummy. ~~~~~ (Today) Andrea: Do you see what I bought at the grocery store today? Frances: Carrots. Andrea: What do you think I'm going to make with all these carrots? Frances: I don't know. Andrea: You don't know? Frances: No. Andrea: I'm going to make carrot soup. Frances: But I don't want carrot soup! Andrea: Tough luck, little girl. I'm going to make carrot soup, and you're going to like it. Actually, I have to be honest, I admire you for your guts. I probably wouldn't be reading this blog right now if it weren't for the fact that I, not so much agree with what you said over at urban moms, but that I admire your tenacity at communicating your stance.I applaud that. Your site is attractive, and my dad is from Canada, but other than that, we have little in common. I just stopped by to say that I read your comment and it made me smile that mommies can still talk to each other... can agree, disagree, whatever, but we are talking. I think that's great. There is none more fickle than a toddler! Except maybe 2 toddlers. I'm not sure exactly where I stand on all the bloggy issues of late, but I do know that you've made me think about my reading, posting, and blogroll habits, and that is a very goood thing. It is always good to have someone remind us that (and how) power and politics excape no realm, no matter how new, how modern, or how seeminggly tolerant and enlightened the individual players are. I am also reminded that those who point out the role of power and politics are almost always called party poopers or whiners in one way or another, and rarely, if ever, thanked. So thank you. I meant "good" thing, not "gooood" thing. I'm not trying to sound like a breakfast cereal commercial here... Posted by: Emmie (Better Make It A Double) at September 18, 2006 8:33 PM

Hi Andrea, I just found your blog. I want to tell you how beautiful I think your daughter is (you never show her face, but I'm in love with her happiness, inquisitiveness, determination), and what a great gift this blog is to her and to us readers. This carrot soup dialogue is adorable! How'd your carrot soup turn out, anyway? Any good? Posted by: Haley-O at September 24, 2006 10:23 PM

Change is God (Octavia Butler, Parable Series) "In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one acts accordingly."
