August 6, 2007 Eleven Days: A relaxing weekend
So what did you do, Dear Readers? Spend some time at a cottage? Chase the bairns around? Have a barbeque? Read a book or magazine? I did this.
And this.
And this.
And this.
The painting is "done." As in, I'm not doing any more until after I move in. I've given up on the inside of the kitchen cabinets, it's just too much work for right now. Maybe the rest of the kitchen, but not right now. (Unless any of you are volunteering to come help.) Took the kitchen doors off, and good Maude what a difference that makes. Found the recycling depot and carried out several loads of empty boxes; found the garbage room and got rid of the crap. Swept the floors (they still desperately need a mopping). Tidied up the storage room, which somehow was already full of crap. Cut shelf liners and put the dishes away. Hung up some hooks and organizing things in the front hall. The one thing I didn't do much of, was sleep. I feel like I ran a marathon this weekend, if a marathon can also make your arms and chest and back ache. But it is actually starting to come together now, and I can sit here on the loveseat (that I assembled last weekend) and picture where things are going to go and how it's all going to look when it's done. I can picture living here. Posted by Andrea at August 6, 2007 8:29 AM under Decision 2007 EMAIL this entry (comments fields are below this section) Comments So far so good! So can we! Posted by: Karen at August 6, 2007 10:27 AM
Actually, a marathon does make your arms and chest and back ache. Trust me. But it's only a couple of hours, not a weekend, so you probably feel worse...but more accomplished than just running for a couple of hours. Posted by: Christine at August 6, 2007 10:32 AM
oh those floors are phenomenal Posted by: flutter at August 6, 2007 11:22 AM

Delurking to say that it looks like you got so much done! Wow! Also, I love the yellow colour. Love. Posted by: Pamela at August 6, 2007 11:45 AM
Andrea, you're my hero. I can't even get *one* room painted without an army helping me. I love the bookshelf. Where'd you get it? I could use one like that. Posted by: Jennifer at August 6, 2007 12:00 PM
Holy cow...you did that by yourself? David and I put one together (and its smaller counterpoint) for the boys room, and even with two people we needed about six more hands! Congrats....and god love IKEA! Posted by: Carolyn at August 6, 2007 12:49 PM
Wow - I could really use a burst of energy like this. Your new home is coming along so well. It really looks nice. I absolutely love the shower curtain. So fun! Posted by: ccw at August 6, 2007 1:07 PM
ccw, if only I'd had the burst of energy. Alas, I only had the deadline. Jennifer, it's an ikea bookshelf called expedit. There are three sizes and a few different colours. This is the big one. Posted by: Andrea at August 6, 2007 2:06 PM
Good heavens! That is some bookcase, sister. Posted by: Emily at August 6, 2007 2:20 PM
That looks like a lovely place to come home to! You've done a stellar job getting ready for the big move in! (And I feel sheepish that I was able to offer naught but moral support.) Posted by: Miche at August 6, 2007 2:49 PM
I am wildly impressed at your DIY skills. Wildly. Impressed. Looks fantastic! Posted by: ewe_are_here at August 7, 2007 2:21 AM

Change is God (Octavia Butler, Parable Series) "In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one acts accordingly."
